LONG BEACH, USA. Sam Bird looked set for a strong Long Beach campaign, setting the initial pace in qualifying before being ousted by Antonio Felix da Costa. However Da Costa was soon excluded for a tyre infringement, and the Brit inherited pole position and had a promising start to the race.

Though he lost out to Di Grassi in the opening laps, he managed to keep pace with the ABT car until Bird made a mistake, locked up his brakes, and went straight on at turn five. He recovered to finish 6th.

‘Disappointed, but it could have been a lot worse. Eleven points from today is better than anything else, but just gutted really.

Looking forward to the Paris ePrix, Bird is excited about the challenge ahead.

‘It’s the home of DS so it’s going to be a big event. It will also be a big event for my team mate, it’s his home race as well, so we need to put on a good show and score lots of points and see what we can do.”
