NEXTEV had their best ever qualifying, helped by post-session penalties, but once again showed a distinct lack of race pace.
Reigning champion Nelson Piquet Jr started 5th but finished out of the points in 13th.
On NEXTEV’s qualifying performance, Piquet said, “We only qualified well because of tricky conditions. It’s only one lap you get in qualifying and lots of people did mistakes. We did a very good job with the car we had.
“Then in race, when it evens out a little because the pace drops down a little bit then obviously our car suffers more – we cannot make the difference that we try to make in qualifying. If we had a better performance car like the one NEXTEV are doing for next year, I’m would bet that both of us would be on the front row for this qualifying session.
[We knew] it wouldn’t be easy [to get] in the points, we were pushing in the beginning, consumed much more energy than the guys in the lead just to create a gap to the guys in the back, and then we had to start saving a lot of energy. So it was a bit of a strategy we were playing and it doesn’t mean we were running as easily as the leaders.”
The final rounds of the season take place at Battersea Park on the 2nd and 3rd July.
