Buemi’s rival for the Drivers’ Championship Lucas Di Grassi starts down in 10th place, giving Buemi the prime opportunity to swing the standings back in his favour.

Di Grassi’s teammate Daniel Abt is third ahead of Sam Bird, who made a mistake in his group session and was unable to set a time fast enough to see him through to the Super Pole.

The Mahindras of Bruno Senna and Nick Heidfeld, both of whom had issues in their Super Pole laps, managed to qualify 4th and 5th, but were excluded from the results for tyre infringements.

NEXTEV improved on their best ever qualifying at the Paris ePrix, going 7th (Piquet) and 9th (Turvey) fastest. Nelson Piquet topped the timesheets in FP2, and despite issues with a failed battery is putting on a strong showing this weekend. After penalties to Senna, Heidfeld and D’Ambrosio, they moved up to start 5th and 7th.

Simona de Silvestro outqualified her teammate Robin Frijns, going 13th and 16th quickest respectively. Though further down the grid than usual for the pair of them, De Silvestro said she was happy with her lap, and was promoted to 10th after penalties were applied.

After Stephane Sarrazin’s mighty shunt in Free Practice Two, he was only able to go 15th fastest and behind his teammate Mike Conway on the grid. He was later excluded and starts 17th.

Debutant Rene Rast starts 13th ahead of Ma Qing Hua in 14th for Team Aguri.
