Jose Maria Lopez was impressive in qualifying and pipped his teammate to P3 on the grid.
However he found himself bunched up behind Oliver Turvey in the run to turn one, with his teammate squeezing him from the side.
“It was tough, I just wanted to finish the race as it’s really difficult for us rookies,” Lopez said post-race.
“A turn one I wanted to turn in and come back but nobody let me. The walls were coming closer to me and I touched a car, which made me touch the wall with the front outside wheel.”
“I had a suspension failure. I tried to continue and do the twenty laps I needed to change the car and continue but the suspension gave up at chicane and I went straight on and unfortunately my race finished then.”
Though not the finish to his first race he was hoping for, Lopez appears confident about DS Virgin Racing’s prospects for the rest of the season.
“I’m really happy with qualifying, to be up there in P3 in my first race is fantastic.”
“There are a lot of things to improve from my side and I need to keep learning, especially in the race. It’s a shame I didn’t get to experience the full distance.”
The next Formula E race takes place on 12th November in Marrakesh.
